Applications open for 2026 Royal Society Pairing Scheme

Applications are open for the 2026 Royal Society Pairing Scheme which pairs 30 researchers with parliamentarians and civil servants.

The Government Science and Engineering (GSE) Profession is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Royal Society Pairing Scheme — a flagship initiative that continues to strengthen the connection between science and policy.

Now in its 22nd year, the scheme represents a long-standing and successful collaboration between the GSE Profession and The Royal Society. Together, we have supported hundreds of civil servants and researchers to build mutual understanding, foster evidence-informed policymaking, and promote the value of scientific engagement across government.

Each year, 30 researchers are paired with parliamentarians and civil servants for a week-long programme. Activities include collaborative workshops, shadowing placements, and a Parliamentary Reception. These are designed to build lasting networks and deepen insight into the UK’s research and policy landscape.

Following a successful 2025 scheme, which featured Turbo Talks, policy simulations, and a keynote from Baroness Brown of Cambridge FRS, the 2026 programme promises another engaging and impactful experience.

Applications close on 21 November 2025. If you’re interested in applying, please fill out the application form. If you would like more information on the scheme, please contact gse@go-science.gov.uk.
