The Work and Health Unit works to improve the health and employment outcomes for working age people who have, or may acquire, a disability or health condition.
The Work and Health unit is jointly sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health.
The unit is currently leading work across government on the Improving lives: the work, health and disability green paper.
The green paper explores a range of options for long-term reform across different sectors, targeting the factors which contribute to the disability employment gap, and aims to build a consensus for change. Its proposals cover the roles played by the welfare system, the health and care system, employers and wider society, to make sure that all disabled people and people with health conditions are supported to go as far as their talents will take them.
