Prescribed Specialised Services Advisory Group

The Prescribed Specialised Services Advisory Group (PSSAG) advises Ministers on whether certain services, for people with rare and very rare conditions, are specialised and should be prescribed in regulations.

Role of group

The purpose of this advisory group is to advise ministers on:

  • which services currently included within regulations should continue to be commissioned by NHS England
  • which services should not continue to be nationally commissioned so that in future responsibility should sit with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)
  • which services currently commissioned by CCGs should in future be commissioned directly by NHS England
  • which innovative new treatments and interventions not part of existing services should be directly commissioned by NHS England
