Opportunity expert council

The opportunity expert council brings together experts across the breadth of the government’s opportunity objectives to focus on breaking the link between children and young people's backgrounds and their future success.

Purpose of the council

The council supports DfE’s delivery on opportunity for children and young people, providing expert input, evidence and challenge. The group is one of a range of forums and ways in which we’re bringing expertise from outside government into the department’s delivery approach.

Participation in each meeting is on an advisory basis only. The responsibility for making decisions remains with the Secretary of State for Education and ministers, who are held accountable to Parliament, taking into account all relevant factors and the public sector equality duty.

Meeting dates

The council meets at least once a term.
