National DNA Database Strategy Board

The National DNA Database Strategy Board provides governance and oversight over the operation of the National DNA Database (NDNAD) and the national fingerprint database.

The Strategy Board comprises representatives of the National Police Chief’s Council, the Home Office, the DNA Ethics Group, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, the Forensic Science Regulator (or her representative), the Information Commissioner’s Office, the Biometrics Commissioner (or his representative), representatives from the police and devolved administrations of Scotland and Northern Ireland and such other members who may be invited.

Gary Pugh is the current chair of the Strategy Board. He is director of forensic services at the Metropolitan Police Service position he has held since 2001 having previously spent 15 years as an operational forensic scientist. He is a member of the European Directors group of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes.
