Local Net Zero Forum

The Local Net Zero Forum brings together national and local government on a regular basis to discuss policy and delivery options on net zero.

Role of the Forum

The aim of the Local Net Zero Forum (LNZF) is to support engagement between central and local government on net zero.

The Ministerial Local Net Zero Forum will oversee the work of the Official-level Local Net Zero Forum, providing steers on the major issues on which they should focus.

The Official-Level Local Net Zero Forum will report back to the Ministerial Local Net Zero Forum on those issues.

Ministerial Local Net Zero Forum: meeting minutes

Meeting, 21 November 2023

The Ministerial Local Net Zero Forum agreed the Terms of Reference.  The Forum then discussed approaches to devolution and the local government vision for how local government can best contribute to both national net zero targets and local priorities, driving progress and sharing best practice.

Meeting, 9 February 2023

The Ministerial Local Net Zero Forum agreed that it would be co-chaired by a Department for Energy Security & Net Zero Minister and the Chair of the Local Government Association, and that Terms of Reference would be produced for discussion at the next meeting. The Forum then discussed the local net zero recommendations from the independent review of net zero by Chris Skidmore MP.

The Forum discussed the issue of wider devolution, that is devolution going beyond the building retrofit pilots that form part of the Trailblazer devolution deals with Greater Manchester Combined Authority and West Midlands Combined Authority.
