Judicial and Legal Diversity Board

The Judicial and Legal Diversity Board will focus on removing barriers to judicial careers for the most under-represented groups.

The Judicial and Legal Diversity Board (JLDB) has been established by the Deputy Prime Minister and Lady Chief Justice to bring together organisations from across the justice sector to oversee a shared, strategic work programme to help ensure a high-quality, diverse legal services sector and judiciary that are responsive to the needs of the whole justice system.  

The Judicial and Legal Diversity Board will focus on removing barriers to judicial careers for the most under-represented groups and ensuring that we have a strong and diverse pipeline of talent progressing through the legal professions to be our judges of the future.

Membership

The standing members of the Board are:

  • The Deputy Prime Minister/Lord Chancellor
  • The Lady Chief Justice (supported by a member of the senior judiciary)
  • The Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission
  • Chair of the Bar Council
  • President of the Law Society
  • President of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives
  • Chair of the Legal Services Board
  • Chief Executive of Judicial Office
  • Director of Judicial and Legal Services, Ministry of Justice

Other attendees may be invited to attend individual meetings.
