The International Data Transfers Expert Council has been convened to provide independent perspectives and advice on government international data transfers policy.

The International Data Transfers Expert Council was set up in 2022 by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to provide independent, expert advice to Government on international data transfer policy issues.
On 18 March 2025 the Council was formally closed after having successfully fulfilled its objectives.
Before the Council closed, it published Towards a sustainable, multilateral, and universal solution for international data transfers report in November 2023.
Role
The Council has been set up to bring together experts on international data transfers to engage on the key opportunities and challenges in this area. The group has been created to provide DCMS with practical feedback on the design and implementation of international data transfers policy.
Meetings will be held once a quarter.
