Defence Industrial Joint Council
The Defence Industrial Joint Council (DIJC) is the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD’s) main strategic mechanism for defence sector engagement.
The DIJC supports the forging of new partnerships between MOD and the wider defence sector.
It maximises the strategic relationship between industry and MOD to deliver world class capability, support to the Armed Forces and UK prosperity.
DIJC is co-chaired by Luke Pollard MP, Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, and Dr Charles Woodburn, Chief Executive Officer, BAE Systems.
DIJC aims to:
- represent the whole industrial base
- bring diverse defence industry expertise from across the UK to the heart of defence decision-making
Its membership includes defence suppliers of all sizes (including Small to Medium Enterprises), academic institutions, investors, technologists, trade associations and trade unions.
Role
The DIJC acts primarily as a change and delivery mechanism for Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) implementation, with specific powers to initiate collaborative activity through its structures.
Communications
The DIJC Communications Forum serves as MOD’s principal strategic engagement platform with the wider defence sector, bringing together senior representatives from across government, industry, and other key stakeholders.
The Forum is co-chaired by Rupert Pearce, National Armaments Director, and John Howie, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Babcock.
