Competent Person Forum

A forum to discuss matters of interest for competent person schemes who undertake self-certified building work in England and Wales

From the 1 January 2016, the Competent Person Forum operates as a sub-committee of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) which is a statutory advisory body to the Secretary of State. As a sub-committee of BRAC the Competent Person Forum now has a statutory right to advise ministers and BRAC.

Membership of the Forum is made up of representatives of each of the 17 competent person schemes, with BRAC members, DLUHC, the Welsh Government, Local Authority Building Control and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service attending as observers.

Background

The Competent Person Forum was set up in 2004 to support and improve competent person schemes authorised by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and the Welsh Government. Competent person schemes undertake most notifiable building work in England and Wales, in excess of 3 million jobs a year, and represent over 100,000 registered installers.
