Academies regulatory and commissioning review advisory group

The advisory group will work alongside the Department for Education for the internal policy review of academy trusts and their development as we move towards an academy trust-led school system.

Purpose

The internal policy review began in June 2022 and follows on from the schools white paper Opportunity for all: strong schools with great teachers for your child. The department’s review will look at:

  • the expectations set for academy trusts
  • how these are measured and intervened against
  • how this affects decisions about trust establishment, growth and mergers

The advisory group of education, academic and regulatory experts will provide regular advice and challenge to the department. The group will meet with the Minister for the School System up to twice a month, with additional sessions being arranged if necessary. The group will advise the department until the end of the review in December 2022.
