Responses to this consultation on improving the efficiency of rail network renewals were published in September 2017. The results of this consultation fed into work to deliver the statement of funds available (SoFA) for England, Wales and Scotland in October 2017.

Following on from this consultation, on 31 October 2018 the Office of Rail and Road published its Periodic review 2018: final determination.

Network Rail’s efficiency in renewing the rail network is crucial to the value for money that:

  • passengers
  • freight users
  • taxpayers

get from the railway. This efficiency has fallen in recent years.
