Over £19 million investment to rid Dudley Road of delays and congestion
Over £19 million Levelling Up Fund investment is to go to the A457 Dudley Road, a vital artery of Birmingham city.
Upgrades benefit all road users
The funding will make sure the road is fit for future use by:
- boosting public transport
- cutting journey times
- reducing congestion
All road users will be able to move more efficiently along the corridor due to:
- improved sustainable transport facilities
- better traffic management
A representative of Birmingham City Council, said:
The Dudley Road Levelling Up scheme will catalyse the desperately needed economic growth and regeneration in the area, improving quality of life and tackling health and economic inequalities. This means improving journey times and reducing congestion, so a really important part of the scheme is improving bus lanes and pedestrian and cycling facilities within this key travel corridor. This is another vital cog in the wheel of our Route to Zero carbon strategy.
A catalyst for future regeneration
The funding will unleash potential in the local area by improving:
- living conditions for residents within the A457 Dudley Road corridor
- the experience for commuters
The Dudley Road investment supports the city’s growth objectives within Greater Icknield.
Plans include:
- employment opportunities
- 3,000 new homes
- new local facilities
Alignment with local and national objectives
The improvements align with Birmingham’s Emergency Transport Plan and Active Travel Plan. These plans were introduced following COVID-19.
The improvements support the council’s longer-term priorities for:
- working towards Net Zero by 2030
- sustainable transport
The upgrades will bring new opportunities and help level up one of the most deprived areas of Birmingham.
