Over £12.5 million to regenerate Newhaven

Lewes District Council secured over £12.5 million from the Levelling Up Fund to regenerate Newhaven.

The funding will help:

  • establish the town as a maritime centre of excellence
  • protect Newhaven’s fishing industry

Protecting Newhaven’s fishing industry

Plans to rejuvenate the local fishing trade include:

  • providing new fish landing stages to accommodate vessels
  • building a new centre of excellence for seafood processing

Activating the local economy

The investment will:

  • create a new restaurant and community destination on the West Beach promenade area
  • stimulate the local economy by retaining spending in Newhaven

With a lively fish market and new restaurant, the town will:

  • increase footfall in the town centre
  • attract new visitors
