Almost £20 million for housing and transport improvements in Barton (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Almost £20 million from the Levelling Up Fund was awarded to North Lincolnshire Council to revolutionise travel in Barton.

The package of projects will open land for housing and enable easier travel throughout the town.

Levelling Up funding will support the creation of the Barton-upon-Humber link road that will connect Barrow Road, the A1077 and Caistor Road.

The funding will support phase one of the development which includes:

  • junction upgrades on the A1077/ Falkland Way Junction to Caistor Road
  • improvements to the Holydyke Junction
  • a new route for cyclists and pedestrians on both sides of the link road

The Link Road will unlock land that is expected to deliver over 200 homes.

Active Travel Routes

A new network of travel routes for cyclists and pedestrians will be built throughout Barton town centre. This will better connect the local community with:

  • local destinations such as Waters Edge Country Park, Humber Bridge and Baysgarth Park
  • Barton-on-Humber Railway station
  • local schools and employment sites
  • other key services

The Active Travel Routes will also connect Barrow-upon-Humber, providing better access to schools in this area.

The network will connect people with the wider natural landscape and promote healthier lifestyles.

Barton-upon-Humber Station Mobility Hub

New facilities at Barton-on-Humber Railway and Bus Station will improve the experience for passengers using the rail and bus station.

The hub will include:

  • covered bike stands and electric bike charging
  • 31 new car parking spaces and Electric Vehicle charging points
  • improved bus shelters and paving
  • real-time passenger information
