£43.1 million has been allocated to transform 2 London Underground Stations.

Colindale station upgrade in Barnet

A major upgrade will be made to Colindale station to provide permanent solutions to long term challenges.

The funding will be used for:

  • the construction of a new landmark building over the tracks
  • the installation of a lift to provide street to train step-free access to increase accessibility
  • additional ticket gates in a bigger ticket hall to support the growing demand resulting from the regeneration of the area around the station
  • improved safety, signage and passenger experience throughout the station

Leyton station upgrade in Waltham Forest

Significant upgrades will be made to Leyton station to make it more accessible and encourage sustainable travel.

The upgrades include:

  • a new, larger, high quality ticket hall building including additional ticket gates to reduce congestion and meet expected future demand
  • two new lifts and an overbridge to make the station step-free from street to platform for the first time
  • an improved station environment leading to an enhanced passenger experience and gateway to Leyton town centre

The package of improvements will complement the wider regeneration and new homes in the Leyton area.

Seb Dance, London Deputy Mayor for Transport, said:

Levelling Up funding will contribute to transforming Colindale and Leyton Underground stations to make these stations accessible to all Londoners, while supporting the regeneration of the surrounding town centres.

This money was allocated in Round 2 of the Levelling Up Fund and was match-funded by and working in partnership with the London Boroughs of Barnet and Waltham Forest.
