You can only apply for a grant if: you’re a residential landlord who owns or manages flats, houses or apartment blocks the property you own or manage is in the UK (it cannot be in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man) You can apply on behalf of a company, charity or public sector organisation, but it must be registered in the UK. The grant can only be used on existing properties. It cannot be used for buildings under construction. Residential landlords You or the organisation you represent are a residential landlord if you own or manage: a property that is let for people to live in (for example a flat) a property that has multiple units in it where people live (for example a block of flats) the common or communal spaces of a property that has multiple units in it where people live (for example an apartment block or a housing estate) When residential landlords can apply You can apply if you’re: an individual with property to let a right to manage ( RTM ) company a residents’ management company ( RMC ) a company or person owning the freehold of a multi-unit property a company owning a building’s common areas, including shareholders who are the leaseholders a registered provider of social housing a public sector organisation - for example government departments, local councils, the armed forces or the NHS and emergency services a charity that manages or owns residential property a property management company that represents a landlord You must also be one of the following: registered on Companies House VAT registered on the register of social housing providers You cannot apply if: you live in the property your property is not a residential property you’ve already installed the chargepoint you’re claiming funding for - the chargepoint must not be installed before the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles ( OZEV ) confirms you’re eligible for a grant the property is only used for holiday accommodation you’re installing a chargepoint for a new build or because of another mandatory requirement - for example, to comply with building regulations or a planning permission condition Your parking space Each parking space you’re applying to install a chargepoint at must be: off-street, private and clearly defined - it does not have to be part of the property accessible to your tenant owned by you, or be one you have the legal right to Some installations may need cables or parts to be placed across private or public land. You must have proof of all legal rights and permissions before work begins. Your installer will check that the electric vehicle can charge safely in the parking space.

Before you apply, you must: complete any necessary upgrades to the building’s electrical supply arrange regular maintenance checks of the chargepoints decide how the electricity and running costs will be paid make sure the chargepoints are accessible update your property’s risk assessment to include the chargepoints be ready to act on the risk assessment and put in place and maintain appropriate fire safety measures You can apply for multiple sockets at the same address. If you’re using more than one installer or applying for more than one address, submit a separate application for each one. How to apply Contact an installer approved by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles ( OZEV ) to get a quote for the work. Agree with your installer what work will be carried out before you apply for a grant. Choose a chargepoint model from the list of eligible chargepoints . Complete the online application . Documents you’ll need You must provide additional evidence as part of your application. These documents must be in the name of the organisation or business applying for a grant. You’ll need: a quote from your installer for the installation of your chargepoint the title register from HM Land Registry showing you’re the freeholder (if you’re a freeholder for a multi-unit property) a dated copy of your current insurance policy, showing the address and confirming the property is a rental property (if you’re a private landlord or charity letting a property) If you’re applying on behalf of a right to manage ( RTM ) company or residents’ management company ( RMC ), you must provide: evidence that you’re listed on Companies House a document verifying your position - for example, RTM or RMC minutes of your appointment If you’re a property management company applying on behalf of a landlord, you must provide: your letter of appointment or agreement with the landlord to manage the property the required evidence for the type of landlord you represent If you need help If you have any questions about your application, you can speak to your installer or contact the Government Grant Managed Service. After you’ve applied

Once the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles ( OZEV ) approves the application, they’ll let you and your installer know. Claiming the grant When your installer finishes the work, they will claim the grant on your behalf. They will give details of your chargepoint to OZEV , along with photographs of the installation and a copy of your invoice. If OZEV approves the claim, they will pay the grant amount to your installer. Audits OZEV may audit your application before it’s approved. They may also audit your installation to check that it meets the grant requirements. They may arrange for a site visit. If you do not allow this or do not respond to their questions, they may cancel your application.
