Diplomatic business
You will not need a visa to come to the UK for a posting or to transit through the UK if you’re going to or returning from a posting in another country.
You can apply for an exempt vignette to help you avoid delays when you enter the UK. Your partner or family members might also be able to apply.
Government business
You will not need a visa to come to the UK on official government business for your country if you’re a serving government minister at a national government level.

Transiting through the UK
You will not need a visa to transit through the UK (on your way to another country) while travelling on any official government business if you:
- have an electronic travel authorisation (ETA)
- have an EU Settlement Scheme family permit
- have a Home Office travel document, for example you’re a refugee or stateless person
- have a Standard Visitor visa
- have a Marriage Visitor visa
Otherwise, you’ll need to apply for either a:
- Direct Airside Transit visa if you’re not going through border control
- Visitor in Transit visa if you’re going through border control
