How much it costs

What you’ll need to apply 

You’ll need to:

  • be at least 19 years old 
  • have completed the short course requirements outlined in the How to apply for UK engineering fishing Certificate of Competency (CoC) guidance from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)
  • have met the sea service requirements outlined in the 4 options in the How to apply for UK engineering fishing CoCs guidance from the MCA
  • have a minimum of 24 months seagoing service while holding a class 2 licence on fishing vessels of at least 350kW
  • provide evidence of your sea service
  • provide proof of identity, such as an MCA-attested copy of your passport
  • have an oral exam “pass”
