What you’ll need to apply 

You’ll need to have: 

  • completed the short course requirements outlined in section 6 of MSN 1904 from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)
  • passes for the written exams outlined the MCA’s guidance for obtaining UK MCA engineering fishing certificates
  • a minimum of 24 months seagoing service while holding a class 2 licence on fishing vessels of at least 350kW, which must include 6 months of seagoing service on fishing vessels of at least 750kW
  • evidence of your sea service
  • proof of identity, such as an MCA-attested copy of your passport
  • a class 2 certificate of competency (CoC)
