This is the government’s latest response to the recommendations made by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2016. It covers both 2020 and 2021.
Background
The government wants disabled people to fulfil their potential and play a full role in society.
As part of this commitment, the UK ratified the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in July 2009 and published its initial report on the rights of disabled people in November 2011.
The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities published its first periodic review (PDF) about how the UK is implementing the convention in 2016.
The government published its response to this in July 2017.
The UN then published its report of ‘concluding observations’ in August 2017, where it made 10 recommendations and asked the UK to follow-up on these recommendations every 12 months until the next periodic review.
We published follow up responses in September 2018 and September 2019.
