What personal data we collect and how it is used

Defra collects:

  • The type of organisation that you represent
  • Your internet protocol (IP) address, if recorded

The type of organisation is collected to allow Defra to gain an insight into users of the UK Food Security Report and how the Report could be improved for them. The IP may be collected inadvertently as part of the feedback results but will not be further processed by Defra.

The legal basis for processing your personal data is:

  • your consent
  • a task carried out in the public interest. This is to allow Defra to carry out its work as a government department. This may be applicable at a point during the processing, when consent in is no longer the legal basis for processing, for example when your personal data has been incorporated into its analysis and can no longer be identified

The processing of your personal data is based on consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing foodsecurityreport@defra.gov.uk.

Who we share your personal data with

Defra does not share the personal data collected under this privacy notice with other organisations.

Defra respects your personal privacy when responding to access to information requests. We only share information when necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

How long Defra holds personal data?

Defra will keep your personal data until the UK Food Security Report 2024 has been published, at the end of 2024.

What happens if you do not provide the personal data?

If you do not provide the personal data, Defra will have less knowledge of the users of the UK Food Security Report and how the Report could be improved for them.

Use of automated decision-making or profiling

The personal data you provide is not used for:

  • automated decision making (making a decision by automated means without any human involvement)
  • profiling (automated processing of personal data to evaluate certain things about an individual)

Transfer of your personal data outside of the UK

Defra will not transfer your personal data to another country.
