Dear

Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000

Thank you for your email of 17 February in which you requested from the Insolvency Service:

“Please could I have access to the number of IVAs registered by firm per month up until January 2022 for the past 24 months?”

Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I can confirm that the Insolvency Service holds the information that you have requested, and I have provided the most recent information available for public release in Annex A.

Please note that the breakdown of IVA registrations by firm for January 2022 have not been provided as while meeting the legal requirements of the FOIA, the Insolvency Service is also obliged under section 13 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 to comply with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, and specifically, the Pre-Release Access to Official Statistics Order 2008. This requires the producers of official statistics to ensure that no indication of the substance of a statistical report is made public or given to the media, or any other party not recorded as eligible for access, prior to publication.

Annex A presents the number of IVAs registered per month for 24 months up to and including December 2021 by IVA firm.

Under section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it useful to note:

The numbers are reported based on the firm associated with an IVA. The IVA firms listed are as registered on the Insolvency Service Case Information System as at 7 January 2022, which may not reflect the firms with which some IVAs were initially registered. Ongoing IVAs may be transferred between firms. Some basic data cleansing has been performed on the IVA firm names to ensure that IVAs registered by the same firm were aggregated correctly.

IVAs are counted within these statistics once they are registered with the Insolvency Service. There is often a time lag between the date on which the IVA is accepted (known as the date of creditor agreement) and date of registration by licensed insolvency practitioners working for firms that specialise in this area.

The Insolvency Service separately publishes the following related statistics:

Figures provided in Annex A may not align with previously published statistics or with a previous FOI (FOI2021/22-120) since data are extracted from a live system. Additionally, there are ongoing changes to firms that are responsible for managing IVAs that will affect consistency in reporting.

If you are not satisfied with the response we have provided you and would like us to reconsider our decision by way of an internal review (IR), please contact our Information Rights Team at foi@insolvency.gov.uk or by post at:
