Ministerial appointments: July 2014

A reshuffle has taken place and the Prime Minister has announced new ministerial appointments.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

New ministerial appointments announced were:

  • William Hague is appointed as First Secretary of State, and Leader of the Commons
  • Philip Hammond is appointed as Foreign Secretary
  • Michael Gove is appointed as Commons Chief Whip
  • Nicky Morgan is appointed as Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities
  • Liz Truss is appointed as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Michael Fallon is appointed as Defence Secretary
  • Esther McVey will be attending Cabinet in her existing role as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions
  • Greg Clark is appointed as Minister for Universities and Science in addition to his current role as Minister of State
  • Stephen Crabb is appointed as Secretary of State for Wales
  • Baroness Stowell is appointed as Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal
  • Jeremy Wright is appointed as Attorney General
  • Matthew Hancock is appointed as Minister of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Minister of State for Portsmouth
  • Mike Penning is appointed as Minister of State at the Home Office and Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice
  • Nick Boles is appointed as Minister of State jointly for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education
  • Mark Harper is appointed as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions
  • David Gauke is appointed as Financial Secretary to the Treasury
  • John Hayes is appointed as Minister of State at the Department for Transport
  • Anna Soubry is promoted to Minister of State at Ministry of Defence
  • Oliver Letwin continues as Minister for Government Policy at Cabinet Office and becomes Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
  • Claire Perry is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport
  • Priti Patel is appointed as Exchequer Secretary at the Treasury
  • Amber Rudd is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change
  • Penny Mordaunt is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government
  • Nick Gibb is returning to government as Minister of State at the Department for Education
  • Robert Buckland is appointed as Solicitor General
  • Desmond Swayne is appointed as Minister of State at the Department for International Development
  • Julian Brazier is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at Ministry of Defence
  • George Freeman is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department of Health
  • Andrew Murrison is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office
  • Ed Vaizey is promoted to Minister of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, with responsibility for digital industries
  • Brooks Newmark is appointed as Parliamentary Secretary at Cabinet Office
  • Brandon Lewis is promoted to Minister of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government
  • Alun Cairns is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Wales Office and Government Whip
  • Mel Stride, Therese Coffey, Ben Wallace and Damian Hinds are appointed as Assistant Government Whips
  • Sam Gyimah is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Education and Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office
  • Jo Johnson is promoted to Minister of State at Cabinet Office and remains head of the Downing Street Policy Unit
  • Tobias Ellwood is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign Office
  • Andrew Selous is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice
  • Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon is promoted to Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government
  • Lord Ashton of Hyde is to join government as a whip in the House of Lords
  • Anne Milton is promoted to Government Whip, Vice Chamberlain of HM Household
  • Baroness Neville-Rolfe is appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
