Southern Africa FRIEND. Phase II. ARIDA. Operation Manual.

Abstract

The ARIDA software is a tool for drought monitoring and assessment based on

DFID-funded research conducted by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology into methods of analysing steam-flow data for these purposes.

The tools presented in this software package provide useful techniques for application in Southern Africa, and, given analysis of appropriate regional data, for application in other parts of the world. It will provide water managers in particular with a useful addition to their analysis tools. The potential to be linked to real-time data from the SADC-HYCOS project means that the software will become increasingly useful as greater volumes of flow data from benchmark stations become available.

This manual describes the research involved and the application of the methods used and includes a step-by-step guide to using the software.
