Sociology, religion and development: literature review.
Abstract
Key theoretical debates wihin the sociology of religion regarding definitions of religion, the role of religion in society and the future of religion are discussed. The extent to which the debates that have emerged reflect a western context are considered. Research within sociology that is relevant to the theme of religion and development is also reviewed looking at religious or spiritual capital and social capital, and civil society and social movements.
