Abstract

This is the final report of project R8069 which aimed to:

• identify patterns of use of telephony, particularly public access telephony, in

low-income communities in Botswana, Uganda and Ghana

• assess the implications of these research findings for major stakeholders in the national ICT sectors studied

• present recommendations to governments, businesses and development

agencies concerned with the promotion of access to telephony in similar low-income countries elsewhere in Africa and in other continents.
