Helpdesk Report: Leveraging the Private Sector for Public Health Objectives: A Briefing Paper for DFID on Technology Transfer in the Pharmaceuticals Sector

Abstract

This briefing paper documents a variety of technology transfer experiences in the pharmaceutical sector between developing and developed countries and analyses the motivations behind these agreements. It focuses on TT experiences that have the potential to encourage capacity development in the pharmaceutical sector of developing countries and/or the potential to deliver products that meet public health objectives. The goal is to help understand how to create an environment where such transfers can occur spontaneously, and in those cases where they do not occur spontaneously, how to develop obligations and/or incentives for technology suppliers and recipients to engage with one another
