Test requirements for position indicating lights: UK21/L025
Adopted EU recommendation LSA-088. UK approved recommendation UK21/L025 clarifying the test requirements for position-indicating lights for life-saving appliances.
Question
There is a concern about the implications of the addition of EN 60945 and IEC 60945 to the Testing Standards requirements for items UK/1.2a, UK/1.2b and UK/1.2c to MSN 1874 as amended. It is believed that the intent of the inclusion of EN 60945 and IEC 60945 to these items of equipment was intended to only apply to the IEC 60945 tests referenced in IMO Resolution MSC.81(70) for the items of equipment in question.
Please can this be clarified?
Recommendation
For items UK/1.2a, UK/1.2b and UK/1.2c, not all sections of EN / IEC 60945 are applicable or relevant to position indicating lights. The only applicable test requirements of EN/IEC 60945 are those referenced in paragraph 10.4 in MSC.81(70).
