B-class doors and B-class ceilings incorporating fittings: UK21/F009

Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-026. UK approved recommendation on the certification of B-class bulkheads and B-class ceilings incorporating fittings.

Question

Integrity failure may occur along one of the joints in the approved B-class bulkhead. The same problem applies to approved B-class ceiling incorporating fittings.

Shall the integrity failure lead to withdrawal of the approval of the bulkhead?

Recommendation

Bulkheads

A failure of the B-class bulkhead along the joints of the supporting bulkhead should not lead to the withdrawal of the bulkhead approval certificate as the tested object is the door and not the bulkhead.

Ceilings

A failure of the B-class ceiling incorporating fittings, along the joints of the supporting ceiling should not lead to the withdrawal of the B-class ceiling approval certificate as the tested objects are the fittings and not the ceiling system.

In case of failure the following actions shall be taken by the approved bodies:

  1. inform the Notified Body issuing the production conformity certificate
  2. inform the manufacturer of the supporting construction
  3. inform the Administration
