Training given to door supervisors on conducting body searches

Updated 17 February 2023

1. Request

Hi please can I have the policy and education given or advised to SIA door supervisors concerning the body pat-down search for licensed premises including nightclubs? I was inappropriately touched twice (once inside the club during the pat-down and the second time being inside the club with a clench of my bum) by an SIA door supervisor in uniform at the venue hence wanting to know what the boundaries are when it comes to areas SIA door supervisors should pat-down search.

2. Response

I can confirm that the SIA does hold the information you have requested.

I have attached the ‘Specification for learning and qualifications for door supervisors’ document. The relevant information for the purposes of your Freedom of Information request is highlighted in green. Please note that the SIA is not responsible for procedures, including security searches adopted by venues.

In respect of your part of the Freedom of Information request wherein you report to have been inappropriately touched while being searched, we are sorry to hear this. Please do not hesitate to report this incident to us via our website: Report security staff or companies to the Security Industry Authority.

Any information you may have about the licence holder to help us identify them should be included in the report. The best form of information is their licence number: this can be found at the bottom of their SIA licence card, usually worn on their person whilst they are undertaking Door Supervisor activities. Other information such as their name, date of birth, venue they were working at time of incident, security company (if any) they are believed to have worked for (usually identifiable via any branded uniform they may be wearing) can assist us in identifying the licence holder.
