We have published the government’s response to the Lord David Willetts review of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) business case process.
Since its formation last year, the department has been working to review and improve processes around business cases and approvals. As part of this work, DSIT Secretary of State asked Lord David Willetts to lead an action group, with members from across Government, tasked with making recommendations for how DSIT can rapidly improve its approach to how it approves funding for R&D.
The review provides a detailed assessment of the current challenges faced in relation to the process of developing and approving business cases for R&D investments in DSIT.
DSIT accepts the report’s 6 recommendations and is now in the process of implementing changes in response. DSIT is committed to driving forward the actions set out in the response and recognises their importance in our wider science and technology mission. We hope that by leading change in this area, we will help create greater efficiencies in the approach to R&D investment and business case development across government.
