The pilot scheme and participating providers

Published 31 October 2023

Applies to England

We are currently running a pilot of the portable flexi-job apprenticeship scheme, which is limited to certain apprenticeship standards and training providers.

The pilot is running across 37 standards in the following sectors:

  • care services
  • construction and the built environment
  • creative and design
  • digital
  • health and science
  • sales, marketing and procurement
  • transport and logistics

Employers taking part in the pilot commit to a minimum 3-month apprenticeship contract, instead of the usual 12 months. Apprentices combine different employment contracts during their programme.

The pilot protects the core principles of an apprenticeship. This means portable flexi-job apprenticeships have an overall minimum duration of 12 months, and minimum off-the-job training requirements.

To find out more about, or take part in, the portable flexi-job apprenticeships pilot, email helpdesk@manage-apprenticeships.service.gov.uk or contact the providers participating in the pilot.
