Susanna Moorehead

Biography

Susanna Moorehead was the British Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti (non-resident) and Permanent Representative to the African Union and UN Economic Commission for Africa from January 2016 until January 2019. Prior to her service as Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ms. Moorehead was the Director for Southern and West Africa at the Department for International Development (2012 to 2015).

She served as Executive Director for the United Kingdom at the World Bank in Washington DC (2008 to 2012). Ms. Moorehead served as the Head of DFID India (2005-2008). In her career in DFID she has previously been the Head of Governance, Sustainable and Social Development (2003 to 2004), Head of Asia Regional Policy Department (2001 to 2003) and Head of Economic and Social Research (1999 to 2000) at DFID.

She was Deputy Director of the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex between 1993 and 1997. She worked for Save the Children Fund in West Africa from 1985 to 1988.

Born in London, Ms. Moorehead did her postgraduate degrees at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she graduated with PhD in International Relations in 1983. She received an Honorary Doctorate from University of York in 2014, where she had also studied as an undergraduate. Ms. Moorehead has two daughters.
