Mark Dittmer-Odell

Biography

Mark Dittmer-Odell was appointed British Consul-General in Munich in April 2024. His area of responsibility covers Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Before he began his career with the British government in 2017, he worked in government affairs for the private sector for eight years.

He has extensive experience in trade and investment, his previous Government roles include leading the British Embassy in Ethiopia’s trade and investment relationship for 3.5 years and acting as Director of Outward Direct Investment to Africa during the Prime Minister-led “Africa Investment Conference” in 2020. He was also Head of Europe within the Department for Business and Trade in the period following Brexit, working to reshape, upscale and upskill the UK’s trade capabilities.

Before joining the British Government, Mark worked as lecturer in British politics and quantitative research methodologies at Birkbeck College, University of London. He holds a PhD in EU Public Policy.

The consul-general represents the UK government and is typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
