The Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes CBE

Biography

The Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes CBE is a Scot and has been Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh since 1990. After degrees in Russian and theology he was ordained in 1976 in Edinburgh and has served as an Anglican priest ever since. He has combined this with a number of public appointments mostly in law or medicine. For 4 years he was as a Member of the Parole Board for Scotland and for 3 years served as HM Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland. His appointment as Chair of the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission ended in December 2008, having served the maximum term of 10 years: during this time the Commission, which investigates alleged miscarriages of justice, reviewed the case of Mr Al-Megrahi, the Libyan convicted of the Lockerbie bombing. For 13 years he served on the General Medical Council and chaired the Scottish Parliament’s Expert Group into issues surrounding MMR and autism. He chairs the UK Committee on Ethical Aspects of Pandemic Influenza and Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland. Jane and he have three sons, one of whom is serving in the Royal Marines.
