New SIA non-executive director appointed

The Minister for Safeguarding has appointed a new non-executive director to the Board of the Security Industry Authority.

Duncan Worsell MBE was appointed to the Authority from 15 March 2024.

Duncan brings extensive experience from his long and established career with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, the national police service with responsibility for the security of nuclear sites across the UK as well as secure transit of nuclear material. His experience is complemented by professional qualifications including a Masters in Business Administration, Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Management and programme management. Duncan is an Associate Member of the Security Institute.

SIA Chair Heather Baily said:

I am delighted to welcome Duncan Worsell as a new non-executive director and member of the Authority. His professional background in national infrastructure security complements the skills of existing members and I know he will bring a useful perspective to the Board discussions.

The Security Industry Authority is the regulator of the UK’s private security industry. Our purpose is to protect the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. We are responsible for licensing people who do certain jobs in the private security industry and for approving private security companies who wish to be part of the voluntary ‘Approved Contractor Scheme’. We are marking 20 years since we were set up in 2003 and issued the first SIA licences in April 2004.
