UK Candidacy for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council Elections 2022

Latest documents and updates on the UK’s campaign for a seat on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council.

The UK announced on 9 July 2021 that it will run for a seat on the Council of the ITU.

The ITU is the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technology. The UK has been a committed member of the ITU for more than 150 years.

During this time we have helped shape the direction of the ITU, and have supported it in its role coordinating radio spectrum, developing technical standards, and helping to bridge the digital divide.

Being a member of the ITU’s governing council would help the UK support the ITU in delivering its critical agenda, in particular its mission to ‘connect the world’.

The election will take place at the ITU’s Plenipotentiary Conference which is set to convene between 26 September to 14 October 2022.
