This report includes recommendations for developing a 3-phased siting program:

  • initial investigation
  • depiction phase
  • site specific activities

The 3 phases are designed to provide relevant information to host communities in a timely manner and sustain decision making processes and practices.

CoRWM believes that it is important to call on the views of a wide range of experts with contrasting positions in the quest to deliver a Geological Disposal Facility. In her report, Dr Charlotta Sanders, with her considerable prior experience in these matters, considers the issue of GDF delivery by undertaking a summary review of the literature.

The views expressed are her own and do not necessarily reflect the views of CoRWM. In particular, while removing aspects of the current policy process such as the consent-based aspect may potentially remove barriers to delivery, it is important to recognise that some of these barriers represent important environmental and social protections.
