1. Main Points
This release sets out data on the delivery of unpaid work from 1 April 2022 to 31 December 2023.
Comparison of periods takes into consideration the latest quarter of data (October 2023 to December 2023) and the matching period of the previous year (October 2022 to December 2022). By analysing the same quarter of both years in the paragraphs below, the key points and comparisons are not impacted by the seasonal nature of unpaid work delivery.
The total number of individuals sentenced to unpaid work reached 11,755 between 1 October 2023 and 31 December 2023, up from 11,255 in the same period in 2022.
The total number of unpaid work hours sentenced during that same period was 1,496,535, an increase from 1,423,225 between 1 October 2022 and 31 December 2022.
The number of individuals with unpaid work terminating between 1 October 2023 and 31 December 2023, decreased to 12,465 from 12,580 for the same period in the previous year.
375,955 sessions of unpaid work were offered between 1 October 2023 and 31 December 2023, with 228,125 sessions being completed. Both of these represent increases on the 337,750 sessions offered and 199,695 sessions completed between 1 October 2022 and 31 December 2022.
At 31 December 2023, there were 38,895 individuals with a current requirement to undertake unpaid work. A decrease from 46,310 at the end of 2022.
