New rules to crack down on illegal ads, influencer scams and protect children online
The CMA has published 6 key principles for tackling hidden ads on social media for platforms.
The Online Advertising Taskforce brings together representatives from government and the online advertising sector to work in collaboration to address illegal harms and the protection of children in relation to online advertising.
In response to competition concerns raised by the CMA, Meta has offered commitments not to use competitors’ advertising data for its Facebook Marketplace online classified ad service. It will do this by implementing new technical systems and training for staff.
Following CMA action, Meta will no longer be able to use certain data obtained from competing businesses that advertise on its platforms to gain an unfair advantage.
