Home Office Research Report 74 looks at the criminal careers of offenders involved in organised crime. It examines the characteristics, criminal histories and the offence trajectories for organised crime offenders, and also the offence-based risk factors for subsequent involvement in organised crime.

This study uses an innovative methodology for constructing a sample of organised crime offenders using Police National Computer (PNC) data on all criminal justice sanctions from 2007 to 2010. A quantitative analysis of PNC data compares the offence histories of organised crime offenders with a general and a serious crime offender group.

This report reveals a number of the distinct features of this offender group and highlights a range of pathways taken to become involved in organised crime.
