Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from superficial gravel and sand deposits at Lockington Quarry, Leicestershire within National Grid References (NGRs) SK 47730 30750, SK 48890 30750, SK 48890 29510 and SK 47730 29510 to transfer it to Lockington Brook, Hemington Brook and soakaways around the Lockington Quarry site at NGRs SK 48035 29975, SK 48460 29505, SK 48465 29520, SK 49115 30205, SK 48235 30695, SK 48390 30475, SK 48670 30345 and SK 48820 30250 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 1,600 cubic metres an hour

  • 16,000 cubic metres a day

  • 4,015,000 cubic metres a year

Abstraction will take place year-round.
