This document outlines the projects granted under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 during 2016 with a primary purpose of basic research: ethology / animal behaviour / animal biology.

The following projects were granted:

  • understanding rodents: communication and welfare (rodents, communication, welfare, pest control)

  • ecology of divergence in wild fish populations. (host-parasite interactions, adaptive radiation, three-spined stickleback)

  • wild mammal population structure (bats, dormice, conservation, 4. the evolution of food hoarding)

  • the evolution of food hoarding (consumption, stress, neuromodulators, avian, hormone)

  • ageing, chronic stress and trans-generational fitness in wild birds (ageing, senescence, global climate change, birds)

  • the neural basis of biological rhythms (circadian, age, biological rhythms)
