27 February 2024 Spotlight on Digital and Data Live webinar - Cloud 101: What, why and how? Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) continues bringing the top experts’ knowledge directly to non-digital civil servants across all government departments.

The UK Government is one of the earliest adopters of the Cloud, and our flagship Cloud First Policy has been copied across the public sector and is now 10 years old. But what is the Cloud? Why is it better than servers in your own data centre? How does it enable new ways of delivering amazing services to the public sector?

This webinar will be of particular use to Senior Civil Servants, but everyone with a Civil Service email is welcome to attend.

18-22 March 2024 Services Week Services Week is an annual event series run by the Government Digital and Data community for people working in the UK public sector. Sessions are designed by the community, for the community and we are looking for you to get involved. Last year, the series featured almost 50 sessions including a Ministry of Justice talk on multidisciplinary teams, local sessions run by Birmingham City Council, and lightning talks run by colleagues working in health.

You can get involved by contributing a session to the agenda or signing up to attend a session.
Sign ups are not yet live but you can see the open agenda here.
26 March 2024 Spotlight on Digital and Data - webinar - User Centred Design and Research Digital technologies have transformed nearly every facet of our lives: from how we work and play, to how we learn and interact with others. The digital revolution hasn’t just changed people’s experience of the world, it’s transformed their expectations too. People expect services to be designed to meet their needs in an intuitive way.

Government is not immune from this change. We see it as an opportunity rather than a threat. Join us to hear from Jodie Keens, a Senior User Researcher at the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) to find out more about user-centred design and user research in this half an hour presentation followed by a live Q&A session.

- Innovation masterclass

New format:
Select a day that suits and learn with a small group of peers from different departments; or study online at your pace.
Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) provides access to the Innovation Masterclass one day online course in order to support the ‘Transforming for a digital future: 2022 to 2025’ roadmap. This course is now a part of the Director Leadership Programme and fulfils the requirements of the Digital Essentials for SCS standard.

The Innovation Masterclass teaches the skills most needed within the Modern Civil Service today. This programme breaks down the art of innovation into small steps that can be applied to your future projects; it is also teaching how to evaluate ideas and pitch solutions.

This short 6-10 hours course can be either studied online at your own pace or in a small cohort of peers on a day of your choice.
Senior Civil Servants across all government departments are invited to apply
- Digital Excellence Programme (DEP) for Senior Civil Servants (SCS) Tomorrow’s government won’t run on yesterday’s technology and the leaders who get us there should be comfortable using data and digital tools to make a difference. This is why the government asks all Senior Civil servants to learn how to build Digital, Data and User-centred culture in their area of responsibility. And the best way of doing it is the Digital Excellence Programme (DEP) that is now offered at no cost to individuals.

Built by the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) and Government Skills and Curriculum Unit in partnership with Apolitical, EY and the London School of Economics this programme will give you all you need to lead the digital change before the change leaves you behind.

The DEP includes four online courses that are between 2 and 5 hours long and can be completed at your own pace.
Please ask your Department’s Learning & Development lead how to enrol or email scs-upskilling@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk for more information.
