Richard Porter

Biography

Richard Porter joined the Foreign Office in 2012 following a career as a Management Consultant and Paramedic.

From 1998 to 2008, Richard worked on the streets of London responding to medical emergencies as part of the London Ambulance Service team. During his service, he attended a number of high profile incidents including the 2005 terrorist attacks on London.

In 2008, Richard joined PA Consulting group as a healthcare management consultant, working with clients in the UK, India and USA. He specialised in restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and healthcare system reform.

In 2012, Richard joined the Foreign Office as First Secretary, Healthcare, based at the British Consulate in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His role focussed on supporting British healthcare companies to increase their exports to Latin America with a particular focus on Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Peru.

Richard moved to the British Embassy in Bangkok as Commercial Counsellor from 2017 to 2021 where he oversaw a doubling of British exports to Thailand and set up a forum to deliver a modern trading arrangement between the UK and Thailand.

In 2022, HM The King appointed Richard as His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

British Ambassador to Bolivia

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
