Bill Crothers

Biography

Bill Crothers joined the Civil Service in 2007, and was the Government’s Chief Commercial Officer from April 2012 until November 2015.

Bill started his civil service career in the Home Office where he later became Group Commercial Director. In addition to this role, Bill became a Crown Representative before becoming Government’s Chief Procurement Officer and later, Chief Commercial Officer, both based in the Cabinet Office.

Bill led the formation and creation of the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) in April 2014, and took additional responsibility as executive Chairman of the new CCS. In September 2014, Bill stepped down as Chairman, reverting to his primary role of leading the commercial function across government. The main focus of Bill’s role continues to be leading the wider commercial reform programme but, in recognition of an extension in scope, his job title changed to Government Chief Commercial Officer in September 2014.

Bill has almost 25 years experience in business. Prior to joining the civil service he operated as a senior business leader within Accenture and was appointed to Accenture’s UK Board in 1995, running various business units and leading the Resources Unit across 11 countries in Europe.
