Dr Ali Hashtroudi

Biography

Dr Ali Hashtroudi, FFOM MSc LLM is a consultant occupational physician and Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. He is the Clinical Director of Occupational Health and Safety Services, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He is the Medical Officer for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Kings College London (KCL). He is the Head of the National School of Occupational Health at Health Education England. He is an Appointed Doctor under several legislations for Health and Safety Executive. He is a Health Examiner and Medical Supervisor for the GMC.

His other appointments include membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Ethics Committee, Chair of the Higher Education Occupational Practitioners and Occupational Health Expert at the UK Advisory Panel for Healthcare Workers Infected with Bloodborne Viruses. He lectures for the Masters course in Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, KCL.

His academic work includes publications in peer reviewed journals in the subject of occupational medicine and has presented nationally and internationally. He has authored a chapter in Fitness for Work a leading textbook in occupational medicine. He has a broad range of educational activities including clinical and education supervision of undergraduate students and specialty registrars in occupational medicine. He was previously the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Regional Specialty Advisor for South Thames region. In his current role as the Head of National School of Occupational Health he is responsible for the quality assurance of the training of the future occupational health practitioners.

He served as a member of the Board of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine between 2007 and 2009, and on the NHS Health at Work Network Board since its inception in 2011 until 2017.

He has a keen interest in the health of healthcare workers, emergency workers and students. He has a wide range of research interests including mental health and work, and biological hazards. He has supervised academic work of students from undergraduate level to PhD. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Egyptian Journal of Occupational Medicine.
