Smoother journeys on the M4 eastbound, Berkshire/Swindon
Overnight resurfacing work will begin on Monday (28 April) resulting in smoother journeys for drivers using the M4 eastbound in Berkshire/Swindon.
The resurfacing work will be carried out in phases on the M4 eastbound between junctions 15 and 14, near Swindon, and then between junctions 10 and 12, Berkshire.

The work on the M4 will involve the complete resurfacing of the road with new material, recycling the old surface, and this will help to maintain safety and provide drivers with an improved road surface.
We have planned to work so that disruption for drivers is minimised as much as possible. This means that work will take place overnight, from Monday to Friday only, with lane closures in place where possible or road closures and a clearly signed diversion route in place when the road is closed.
The work to resurface the M4 eastbound between junctions 15 and 14 will start on 28 April and is planned to finish in the morning of Wednesday 14 May. Work from Monday 28 April to Friday 2 May will involve lane closures and slip road closures only. Between Tuesday 6 May and Tuesday 13 May, the road will be closed eastbound while work takes place and drivers will be signed to follow a clearly signed diversion route via the A346, A4 and the A338.
The work on the M4 eastbound between junctions 10 and 12 will be carried out in sections, starting on Monday 19 May and is planned to finish in the morning of Wednesday 13 June, Monday to Friday only and subject to weather conditions. Work is planned on the westbound carriageway to complete the work and this will be carried out on 16 June for two nights. Drivers will be able to use the following diversion routes when the following sections of the M4 are closed:
- M4 eastbound between junctions 12 and 11 – via the A4 and A33
- M4 eastbound between junctions 11 and 10 – via the B3270, A3290 and A329(M)
- M4 westbound between junctions 10 and 11 – via the A329, A3290 and B2370.
