Transport and Health During and After COVID-19: An Insight

This insight paper looks at the impact of transport on health during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa and South Asia

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has far reaching effects on both transportation and health. Spread of the disease was linked to travel and rapidly resulted in the curtailment of certain forms of transportation in countries. Lockdowns in countries have resulted in reductions n road traffic crashes and improvements in air quality but have also brought to the fore inequalities in the system, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This insight paper looks at the impact of transport on health during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa and South Asia in order to identify areas that require additional research or policy and regulation development. The opinions are those of the authors and a small group of “thinkers” and are offered to stimulate further discussion and debate.
